Korean Business Interpreting
Korean Business Interpreting
Interpreters do far more than replace the words of one language with
the words of another language. Effective interpretation maintains absolute fidelity to the
aims of both parties and translates their core ideas.
When you hire an interpreter from
Korean Consulting and Translation
Service, Inc. you hire an expert familiar with your area of
business. Whether that area is technology, financial
services, academia, or practically any other walk of life,
we guarantee that your interpreter has been custom selected
just for you and your project.
Business Interpreting is Advocacy, Too
Korean Consulting and Translation Service, Inc. interpreters
are not impartial moderators: we actively work for you.
We help you to gain every possible advantage in your business
situation - all while faithfully communicating all aspects of the language.
Communicating More Than Just Words
Your Korean interpreter can help interpret more than language,
too. Your interpreter helps to communicate all
of the subtleties and nuances — and the various power
dynamics and the interaction of social classes — which
drive business. For
instance, your interpreter might provide tips for recommended
actions within certain situations, such as mealtimes and gift-giving
etiquette.
The Business Interpretation Process
-
Consultation Before the Meeting
We will meet with you in advance
to prepare negotiating and/or presentation plans, answer questions
you have about business etiquette, clarify titles and roles in your
group in order to present a proper introduction of everyone and discuss
any other matters of concern to you. This prep-session can take place
on the phone or by email before you leave for Korea, at breakfast
on the day of the meeting in Korea or any other time that is convenient
to you.
-
Interpretation During the Meeting and Beyond
While we interpret
for you and make sure that communications between you and
your Korean counterparts flow smoothly, we will also listen for
valuable (and often unintended) non-spoken messages from the Korean
side that you should know about. We will let you know the precise
relationships of the people within the Korean group and make sure
that you are aware of everything important going on in the meeting.
We will also give you tips to avoid causing offense and suggest
ways to create goodwill.
If the meeting stretches on to a social
event at a restaurant or other public location, we will
let you know what is in the food, make sure you are not put
in uncomfortable positions, and help you participate in the conversation
and make a great impression with your hosts.
-
Report and Advice
After the Meeting
We will sit down with you to review the content
of the meeting, share our impressions and insights regarding the
results and suggest follow-up measures that will be most effective
for you. If time does not allow us to have this review session
on the day of the meeting, we will get together another day if
possible and/or email you a full follow-up report.
Korean or American Business Interpreter - Your Choice
We have the right team members in Korea to help you achieve
successful communications in your business meetings. But if you
would feel more comfortable working through an American interpreter/consultant, our president, Steven S. Bammel,
is often available for business interpreting assignments in Korea,
too. He has participated in countless business meetings in Korea and knows exactly the matters of most concern to Americans - and also has the background and expertise to provide unique insights into business situations.
